H2O and Web Software
H2O is a web-based environment for building Web software applications. What do we mean by Web software? We mean software that runs through browsers.

H2O is particularly good at building Web software because the H2O programming language is based on HTML/OS, a language and database engine known for being web-centric. The HTML/OS platform was not freely available until recently. It's now freely available under the name H2O and WebWindows.

H2O became official January 1, 2004

This is a significant turning point in the web software world. Until recently your only options were ASP, ASP.NET, Perl, PhP, JSP, or C++.

The Concept Behind H2O.

H2O is a programming language where you don't need to be an expert in Web security and server configuration. It's why the language is used at banks and by the military. Best of all, the language is designed so the programmer can be a programmer. You can build web software programs without the technical-overkill demanded by other languages.

Your programs will run at hosting providers and on stand-alone PCs. To run H2O programs all you need is a hosting account or a PC with an H2O engine.

Running H2O.
One way to run H2O is to run it at Hosting Providers. That way you don't have to worry about backing up your computer. And everything you build will run over the Web from any browser on any PC in the world. To run H2O this way use any hosting provider that gives you a CGI bin to run programs. If they need help with H2O, direct them to the H2O site so they can download and install H2O for you.

Another way to run H2O is to install it on your own PC. Although this method means your programs won't be web-accessible, it's a great way to learn. A version of H2O which can be installed point-and-click (The package includes the Web server) is available in the free downloads area.
